Got Soul?

De La Soul, an influential hip-hop group formed in 1987, has made a lasting impact on the genre with their innovative style and thought-provoking lyrics. As key members of the Native Tongues collective, they pioneered a unique fusion of jazz, funk, and soul samples, shaping the course of conscious hip-hop.

Their groundbreaking debut album, "3 Feet High and Rising," released in 1989, showcased their playful, eclectic sound and use of skits, which became a staple in hip-hop albums for years to come. It was a breath of fresh air during a time when gangsta rap dominated the scene, and the album's positive messages about peace, love, and individuality struck a chord with fans.

In 1996, De La Soul released "Stakes Is High," a critically acclaimed record that further cemented their status as influential artists. The album's themes tackled the commercialization of hip-hop and societal issues, resonating with fans and solidifying De La Soul's reputation as one of the most important and enduring groups in the history of hip-hop.
